Three Fun Ways to Use Silicone Baking Molds at Home or in a Classroom

Silicone baking molds are a great addition to your baking supplies. They work well for making shaped cupcakes, cookies, candies and other treats. You may be surprised to discover these three other fun ways to use silicone molds in your home or classroom.

Bite-size Gelatin Treats
Gelatin is a dessert that many people enjoy. It is often made in a rectangular pan and cut into small rectangles for serving. You can use silicone molds in order to create fun shapes for the gelatin. While the flavored gelatin mixture is still hot, pour it into the molds. Some fun shapes to try include hearts, stars and emoji faces. You can enjoy these treats just for fun at home or make them for a birthday party or another special event for young children.

Ice Cubes
Cubes of ice might get boring after a while. Silicone molds in fun shapes can be used to make more attractive ice cubes. You can fill the molds with lemonade, orange juice or lime juice in order to make flavorful ice shapes. These would make an attractive and refreshing addition to seltzer or filtered water on a hot day. Kids who resist drinking water might be more willing to do so with fun ice shapes.

Homemade Crayons
Silicone baking molds can also be used for homemade crayons. If you have stubby, small pieces of crayons that are too little to hold, they can be grouped together by color and melted down in order to make bigger crayons. This would be a fun party favor or a good classroom project for kids. Crayons melt at a temperature of about 160 to 180 degrees Fahrenheit, so you can do this in a toaster oven at home or in school.
